750 Pounds of Methamphetamine Seized in Cargo Truck in Northern Sonora

SAN LUIS RÍO COLORADO, Sonora – Mexican Army and National Guard personnel seized 340 kilograms (750+ lbs) of methamphetamine hidden inside a tractor-trailer at the Cucapah military inspection checkpoint in San Luis Río Colorado, authorities confirmed.

According to the 45th Military Zone based in Nogales, the seizure took place on Thursday, November 20, when troops stopped a cargo truck belonging to a package-delivery company identified as PTX Paquetería y Mensajería. The truck had departed from Hermosillo and was en route to Mexicali, Baja California.

The illegal drugs were concealed inside chlorine barrels, cardboard boxes, and water heaters. The contraband was initially detected using advanced scanning technology, followed by a manual inspection that confirmed its contents.

Two individuals were detained at the scene: a 41-year-old driver from Los Mochis, Sinaloa and a 42-year-old passenger from El Fuerte, Sinaloa.

Both suspects, along with the truck and the seized narcotics, were placed at the disposal of Mexico’s Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office.

The 45th Military Zone reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding communities and maintaining an active stance in the fight against organized crime and drug trafficking in northern Sonora.
