The Southern Sonora pueblo of El Júpare is a photogenic place with interesting places to visit as you explore its rich local history and culture. Located in the municipality of Huatabampo, El Júpare was one of the original eight Mayo pueblos established by Jesuit missionaries in the early 1600’s.

Places to visit in El Júpare include its indigenous church, Mayo cultural center, ethnic food kitchen and artisan crafts store. It is situated in the fertile Mayo Valley of Southern Sonora, and in early summer the town is bounded by fields of golden sunflowers and other crops.

Many of the residents of El Júpare are indigenous Yoreme Mayo, whose deep spirituality and religious devotion are manifested in beautiful traditional fiestas.
