Hermosillo is already feeling like summer. And it’s only February.
The city has set a new heat record for February 27, reaching a scorching 100°F, breaking the previous record of 99.5°F set in 2008, according to Mexico’s National Water Commission (Conagua).
This marks the third consecutive day that Hermosillo recorded record-breaking temperatures, driven by a powerful high-pressure system currently affecting the region.
Even more remarkable, just one day earlier, Hermosillo hit 106°F, the highest temperature recorded so far this February.
Other cities across Sonora are also experiencing intense heat, including San Luis Río Colorado (100°F), Caborca (99°F), Magdalena de Kino (97°F) and Sonoyta (95°F).
While it has not yet been confirmed whether those locations also broke historical records, the same high-pressure system is affecting the entire state, bringing unusually extreme late-winter warmth.
Looking ahead, stable conditions are expected across Sonora, with no rain or cold fronts in sight to bring relief from the rising temperatures.
Summer may still be months away on the calendar. But in Sonora, it has already arrived.
