August Events in Sonora

August is typically the hottest month of the year in Sonora.

In many parts of the state, especially in Hermosillo, daytime temperatures often remain in extreme triple-digit ranges for long stretches. It is also a month shaped by monsoon humidity, dramatic desert storms, and a calendar full of Catholic feast days observed with deep reverence in Sonoran towns and pueblos.

August also includes important cultural dates, including International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples (August 9) and the birth date of Padre Eusebio Francisco Kino (August 10). Padre Kino was a key historical figure whose mission work helped shape the development of northern Sonora and southern Arizona.
