April Events in Sonora

April is one of Sonora’s most dynamic months as it blends civic pride, religious tradition, spring travel, and major cultural festivals.

The month begins with one of northern Sonora’s most meaningful local commemorations: Caborca’s Fiestas 6 de Abril, honoring the town’s historic defense against a group of American filibusteros who attempted to annex the region in 1857.

April is also often shaped by Semana Santa (Holy Week) and Semana de Pascua (Easter Week). It is one of the busiest travel seasons of the year in Sonora, when families flock to the coast, rivers, and pueblos for vacation, tradition, and celebration.

The month closes with one of Mexico’s most joyful national observances: Día de los Niños (Children’s Day) on April 30.
